Management of Patient Data and Treatment Protocol

This section will describe how to save, open, modify and retrieve a treatment protocol and patient data.

Save Patient Profile and Treatment Protocol

After you finalized the creation of a treatment protocol (Acupoint Selection and Performance Schedule Parameters' setting), you should save it for future use or reference. To do so, click the File button on the top of the Operation Window and choose "Save" or "Save As", you will see the window named 'Patient Data & Treatment Protocol' as shown in Fig. A. and Fig. B.

This window contains two tabs titled "Patient Record & Treatment Protocol" and "Featured Treatment Protocol", respectively. If you want to save the protocol as treatment protocol for a specific patient, please click the first tab as shown in Fig. A., otherwise if you want to save the protocol as a featured treatment protocol that can be used later for any patient possible, please click the second tab as shown in Fig. B.

As you can see, the Selected Acupoints in the current Operation Window are automatically transferred to the List named Treated Acupoints. The keywords in the Search Text Box in the Operation Window are also put into the Text Box named Symptoms (and/or diseases). You can write diagnosis, treatments, or notes like healing result or any necessary comments in the corresponding text box. Don't forget to enter protocol performance parameters in the section of "Protocol Settings".

If the client is a new patient, then check the New Patient check box, so the Patient # will be automatically created with the combination of today's date and first-last name (e.g., 2006-05-28_LisaSmith). The record # will be the current date and time.

Upon the patient's first name entered, IAA will automatically guess the gender of the patient, check the appropriate check box, and then move your mouse cursor to the entry of last name. You should make sure that the Gender check box is correctly checked and continue with other entries.

Please check through all items to make sure they are all correct. Now you are ready to click the Save button to store the protocol data. As soon as it is saved, the newly saved patient record will be updated to the record list.

If the patient is an previous patient, and already has a profile saved, you can simply click the patient name in the record list and reload the record into the current window, and save it as an new record with the current date and time.

Featured Treatment Protocol

When clicking on the second tab, the window will look like the following:

All acupoints are transferred from the Selected Acupoints List in the operation window to the Treated Acupoints List, and the keywords are also transferred to the text boxes of protocol description and symptoms & diseases. You may make some modifications to them and write some notes in the notes text box. Also check the protocol settings and make any changes as you want. Do not forget give an appropriate protocol name before saving the data. When ready, click Save / Update Protocol button to save the protocol.

Upon clicking the Save / Update button, the protocol name will be updated to the protocol name list. To retrieve the content of any saved protocol, simply click the name in the list.

Open Patient's Profile and Treatment Protocol

To open a treatment protocol, go to File and choose Open, you will see the Patient Record & Treatment Protocol window. To open a patient's profile, click the patient name in the list of 'Patient Profiles', then you see the profile information is loaded into the window, and at the same time, this patient's previous sessions' records are listed in the list titled with the patient's name. To open the treatment record and treatment protocol, click the record date-time in the list, you will see all the information about the treatment information is loaded into the window.

Modify Treatment Protocol or Patient Profile

Modification of Patient Profile: You can modify patient profile after opening the previously saved data and update it. Simply do the modification in any fields of the profile and click Save/Update button.

Create New Record Based on Previous One: You can not change a saved patient record as it is already a past treatment, but you can load it, modified it, export it to current operation window, and save it as a new session record with the current date and time stamp. The button Export to Operation Window will export the protocol to the current operation window.

Create Featured Protocol Based on Saved Patient Record: You can export the loaded or modified protocol from saved patient record to Featured Protocol window and save it for future use. The button Send to Protocol Window will do this export.

Work with Featured Treatment Protocol

From main menu File, Open, and then click tab of Featured Treatment Protocol, you see the following window. You can click any save protocol name in the list of Protocol Names to open it.

Apply Loaded Protocol to Active Patient: After you load a protocol, you can simply click the button Apply to Active Patient to apply this protocol to the currently active patient in the tab window of Patient Record and Treatment Protocol .

Import Data from Operation Window to Create New Protocol: By clicking on the Import from Operation Window, you can import the selected acupoints from the operation window and add or replace the current protocol data. To save the modified protocol, you simply click Save / Update button. If you want to save as a new protocol, please change the protocol name in the text box named Protocol Name.

Export to Operation Window: Clicking Export to Operation Window can export the current protocol to the operation window to use for current on going session.
